Apologetics Topic: What is a Kustodian?
The story of Jesus has captured the hearts and minds of people around the world for centuries. From his miraculous birth to his teachings and ultimate sacrifice on the cross, each aspect of his life holds a significant meaning for believers. However, one aspect that often goes unnoticed is the role of The Kustodians in the story of Jesus.
Roman Elite Soldiers
The Kustodians, spelled with a K not a C, were a highly skilled and elite unit of the Roman legion. They were known as the "Navy Seals'' of their time and were responsible for guarding important sites and tombs, including the tomb of Jesus after his crucifixion. While the disciples claimed that Jesus had been resurrected because his tomb was empty, skeptics may argue that his body was stolen to make it look like he had been resurrected. However, the question arises - how did they manage to overcome the powerful and well-trained Kustodians?
Why The Kustodians?
To understand the significance of The Kustodians in the story of Jesus, we must first look at the events leading up to his crucifixion. After the last supper, Jesus was betrayed by Judas and condemned to death by crucifixion. As Jesus was laid to rest in the tomb, the Roman authorities would have been concerned about the possibility of his followers trying to steal his body and claim that he had been resurrected, as prophesied. To prevent this, they assigned The Kustodians to guard the tomb and ensure that no one could access it. The Kustodians were highly trained and feared, and their presence would have been a strong deterrent for anyone trying to tamper with the tomb.
After The Resurrection
The Bible mentions that on the third day after his crucifixion, a violent earthquake occurred, and an angel descended from heaven and rolled away the stone that sealed the tomb. The Kustodians, caught off guard and horrified by these miraculous events, fled the scene in fear. This allowed the disciples to enter the tomb and find it empty, providing them with the evidence they needed to believe that Jesus had indeed been resurrected.
The Kustodians played a crucial role in the story of Jesus, and these skilled men guarding the tomb of Christ were the first witnesses to the miraculous events that led to his resurrection. Thanks to their presence and their eventual flight from the tomb, the disciples could spread the message of Jesus' resurrection and the Christian faith was born.
