QUICK TAKES: Survey Finds Growing Gen Z, Men Church Attendance, Bible Interest

(QUICK READ) — A recent survey of American churches conducted by the American Bible Society turned up more evidence that there is a spiritual stirring in this nation, particularly among Gen Zers and especially among young men.

Asked if young adults are showing more interest in their church, a majority (54 percent) respondents for 124 congregations randomly responding from across the country said either “Definitely Yes” or “Probably Yes.” (13 percent and 41 percent, respectively).

Only nine percent of those respondents said either “Probably Not” or “Definitely Not.” Here’s how the ABS summarized the feedback:

“Though there seems to be more interest among young people, connecting with and retaining them has proven more challenging. Churches sense a need for solid biblical teaching as many young people appear to have significant gaps in their understanding of the Bible.

“Some are experiencing challenges connecting young people into the life and community of the church, while others are getting creative, meeting young people where they are– including in the digital space. Additionally, there were many comments about strong and growing youth groups!”

In response to a second question — Are you seeing more men showing up to church? — the results were even more striking, with a total of 57 percent saying either “Definitely Yes” or “Probably Yes). (20 and 37 percent, respectively).

Here, the feedback summary stated this:

“Churches are seeing more men of all ages, but especially young, walking through their doors. And those who already attended are getting more invested in their faith and involved in their church.

“Several churches noted a need to disciple young fathers. Churches are finding ways to get men involved in service and leadership opportunities. Overall, it appears that men are showing higher levels of commitment to their church and to growing in and sharing their faith.”

Such results will surely be reflected in the kinds of constituent communications senators and representatives in both political parties will be receiving in coming months, so aides who read HillFaith won’t be surprised.
