(15:16) — Dr. Michael Egnor is Professor of Neurosurgery and Pediatrics and Neurosurgery Residency Director at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook, New York. He’s also a Senior Fellow at the Discovery Institute’s Center for Natural and Artificial Intelligence.
Egnor has been studying, examining, healing and repairing human brains for decades on a journey that he began years ago as a young man who professed atheism. But, as he explains in the following video he “started out my life as an atheist and I was raised in Upstate New York.”

Along the way, Egnor has been brought into contact with the human brain in ways few others in this country can claim. And those experiences changed how Egnor saw the world, saw the brain and thought about both.
“I realized as I looked further into the neuroscience, into Wilder Penifeld’s work, into research on epilepsy and awake-brain surgery and my own experiences with that, research on split-brain surgery, research on near-death experiences, there are all sorts of fascinating sciences there,” Egnor explains on the video.
“I realized that the materialist bias in the scientific community was leading us astray, it was really betraying real science,” he concluded. “And I also realized you can’t get away from philosophy,” which led him to Aristotle, Plate, Aquinas, Kant, Feser and others.
Egnor describes how he came to those realizations in the wide-ranging observations that make this one of the most fascinating videos HillFaith readers are likely to encounter.

HillFaith resumes its newest offering for congressional aides on Wednesday, October 22, with Session Two of the Faith and Reason on the Hill seminar entitled “Christian Apologetics and Public Life.”
Session One convened September 17 in Sen. James Lankford’s conference room with nearly a dozen attendees, including present and former Hill aides, and focused on “The Information Enigma.” Session Two was to convene on October 1, but had to be cancelled literally at the very last moment as a result of the government shutdown.
So, assuming the shutdown has been resolved and Session Two, which will focus on “The Amazing Fine-Tuning of the Universe for Man,” will convene at 8 am on the 22nd in SR 188. As always, the session ends at 8:45 am and breakfast is provided from the superb folks at Call Your Mom.
Session Three on November 5 in SR 198 will feature Dr. Michael Egnor and Denyse O’Leary, his co-author on their book “The Immortal Mind.” Egnor and O’Leary have happily agreed to join the seminar session via Zoom and will be available to answer questions.
