CONSIDER THIS: What The Hair On Our Heads Teaches Us About God

How much do you “know” about God? Regardless of how you answered that question, there is a familiar passage in the New Testament that provides us with multiple amazing insights into what God must be like.

The passage is Matthew 10:29-31 where Jesus explains that:

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs on your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore, you are of more value than many sparrows.”

Let’s comb through that passage, shall we? (sorry, I just couldn’t resist that one!)

How many individual hairs does the average human being have? Depends on their age and hair color, but generally speaking the average blonde has about 150,000, according to Healthline.

People with brown hair average 110,000 individual hairs, while those with black hair come in at around 100,000 and those with red hair at about 90,000. Brown and black hair are the most common, being seen on 90 percent of the world’s population. And  interestingly enough, men’s hair grows faster than women’s, and the average person’s hair grows about half an inch every month.

So you have somewhere in the neighborhood of 100,000 distinct hairs on your head. And God knows every one of them, according to the Gospel of Matthew, including the 50 to 100 hairs you lose on the average day.

Just Getting Started:

That’s pretty amazing when you think about it, but that’s just the beginning of what our hair tells us about God. It’s not just you and your hair that God knows so intimately, it’s also the hair on the heads of every member of your family.

And that of every one of your neighbors …

And that of every person who lives in your city or county …

In fact, God knows every hair on every head of America’s 330 million people!

But wait, there’s more!

God knows every hair on every one of the 8 billion people presently living on Planet Earth …

And every hair on every human being who has ever before lived here …

Plus, those of every person who ever will live here!

The ‘What If’ Question:

Just think, if this is true, and it is my absolute conviction that it is, then no conceivable number of exclamation marks does justice to the significance of this fact about the nature and knowledge of God.

Incredibly enough, the hairs on everybody’s head is only the beginning of what God knows about each and every human being alive at this moment, every one that has lived in the past and every one who ever will live.

He knows our going in and our going out, our lying down and getting up. He knows our every thought before any of them are. And he knows every word that comes to our tongues before we speak them. He knows every molecule and atom of every part of all of our bodies.

If you doubt these facts, check out Psalm 139:1-18.

Some of you reading this are laughing, thinking there’s no way such a being exists. But what if He does? Something to think about. Something to consider.

“Fear not, therefore, you are of more more than many sparrows.” — Huh? …. you’ve got a syntax error. I believe it is “you are of more VALUE than many sparrows.”

Wait, I’m of more value than many sparrows?
    But…not all of them?
