HILL STAFF VIEWS: Congressional Aides Split Down the Middle on Trump Cabinet Picks’ Confirmation Chances
(TWO-MINUTE READ) — When asked if they thought all of President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees would be confirmed, a clear majority, 56 percent, of the anonymous responding Capitol Hill aides answered in the negative.
But digging a little deeper into the data shows a much more schizophrenic picture. Here’s why: Of those who answered affirmatively, 34 percent were GOP aides, compared to only 20 percent of the Democrat aides. Meanwhile, 21 percent of the GOP operations aides said they were “unsure,” as did 18 percent of the Democratic operations staffers.
House and Senate staffers split nearly evenly in terms of positive responses, with 37 percent of House aides saying yes and 30 percent coming from the Senate side of the Capitol campus.
One group of responders in which there was near unanimity was females, with 60 percent of the GOP women responding in the negative and 57 percent of the Democratic women doing so.
And one more slice of the data bears mention: 76 percent of the Democratic staffers said Trump’s cabinet slate would not all be confirmed, compared to 45 percent of the Republican aides.
Stick around for next week’s results, as the question represents a closing judgement on the Biden presidency.
