WHY ISRAEL MATTERS: Liberty Counsel Chief to Speak About Israel on Capitol Hill

(456 WORDS) — Liberty Counsel founder and chairman of Mat Staver will address the issue of “Why Israel?” Wednesday at 12:30 pm at the Faith & Liberty Ministry Center located at 109 2nd Street NE in the townhouse with the 10 Commandments in the front yard immediately behind the Supreme Court building.

Staver is fifth and final speaker in the Why Israel: Lunch and Learn series of lectures co-sponsored by the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, American Christian Leaders for Israel, Covenant Journey, Concerned Women for America, The Joshua Fund, the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement and Liberty Counsel.

These diverse groups joined forces to sponsor the lecture series because, according to a flyer describing the events, “in an era of shifting political tides and rising misinformation, understanding the strategic, historical and biblical foundations of the U.S./Israel relationship is more critical than ever.”

The lecture series is intended to provide “a monthly deep dive into the most pressing questions surrounding the Jewish state and its role in our world today.”

Staver will discuss in particular “Why Israel’s History Matters” in an important assessment of the crucial importance of the Jewish state to the United States, the entire Middle East and indeed the entire world.

Deuteronomy 7:6 tells Israel that  “For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be His own possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.”

That choice was true 3,000 years ago and it remains true today. There are legions of Biblical scholars who believe the return of the Jewish people from across the entire Earth to re-establish the nation of Israel in the Middle East on its historic lands is a crucial sign that the return of Jesus Christ, the Jewish Messiah, to the Earth for the final days may well be very near.
