Surprise! Bible Spares No One in Old or New Testaments From Deserved Criticism
When marketers prepare advertising for new products, they only talk about the claimed benefits, while ignoring any possible criticisms. Same with political campaigns that portray their candidates in only the most glowing of terms, and historical revisionists seeking to coverup their particular heroes’ flaws.
But that’s not the approach of the Bible’s authors in either the Old or New Testament. Heroes like Abraham, for example, is revealed prior to being renamed by God to be something of a coward when he and his wife, Sari/Sarah, move to Egypt to escape a famine.
Similarly, in the New Testament, the disciples of Jesus, especially Peter, receive rather unflattering portrayal as cowards during the arrest, trial and crucifixion of their leader.
