CONSIDER THIS: Explaining the ‘Explanatory Filter’ of the Design Inference
Dr. William Dembski is a mathematician and philosopher who is also the author of “The Design Inference,” the ground-breaking book making the case 25 years ago for the evidence in nature of intentionality, or design.
Earlier this year, Dembski was joined as a co-author of the second edition of the book by Dr. William Ewert, who is described as “a software engineer and intelligent design researcher. He received his PhD from Baylor University in electrical and computer engineering. He specializes in computer simulations of evolution, genomic design patterns, and information theory. A Google alum, he is a Senior Research Scientist at Biologic Institute and a Senior Fellow of the Bradley Center for Natural and Artificial Intelligence.”
In the following 3:23 video, Dembski explains the role of improbability and specificity, the two factors that make possible his what he calls the “Explanatory Filter” that provides a method for testing for the presence of either chance or design.
Just imagine that you see a wall with 100 arrows in it at various points from top to bottom and left to right. But what if instead there was a bullseye on the wall and all 100 of the arrows were precisely there? Which situation illustrates chance and which intentionality, or design?
