EASTER ISSUES 2026: Most of America’s Founders Thought Creation Required a Designer
(9:59 VIEWING) — There is in the most well-known words of the Declaration of Independence solid evidence that this nation’s founding generation was convinced through revelation and natural reason that there is a supreme being who is the source of all fundamental individual human rights.
Those words, of course, are based on the Declaration’s opening statements that “all men are created equal” and “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.” It’s hardly possible to make one’s fundamental assumption more clear about the nature of reality and the solid ground for individual liberty.
That’s the essential assumption underlying “America’s Founders and Intelligent Design,” produced and released by the Discovery Institute, and the video is based on the superb new book by Professor John G. West, entitled “Endowed by Our Creator.” West is Vice-President of Discovering and Managing Director of the Institute’s Discovery Institute.
This video is hosted by Adam Nieri, who works as an AI Content Creator and Educator at Curious Refuge and runs the @studiosonderhaus YouTube channel. He also hosts Adam Answers.
At the outset of the video, it’s made clear that the Founders’ understanding of the universe was based on the biblical creation account, as well as the works of numerous ancient and contemporary philosophers, scientists and theologians. Nieri points, for example, to this quote from the Roman senator, philosopher and statesman Cicero:
“Can any sane person believe that all this array of stars and this vast celestial adorment could have been created out of atoms rushing to and fro fortuitously and at random? Or could any other being devoid of intelligence and reason have created them? Not merely did their creation postulate intelligence, but intelligence of a high order.”
God formed man, according to Wilson, “with wisdom and design,” and “when we view the inanimate and irrational around and above us, and contemplate the beautiful order observed in all of its motions and appearances; is not the supposition unnatural and improbable that the rational and moral world should be abandoned to the frolicks of chance, or the ravage of disorder?”
But Cicero’s insight and Wilson’s observations are just a taste of what you will hear in this wonderfully informative and thought-provoking look at how the Christian faith so deeply influenced the American Founders.
Enjoy! And share it with friends, colleagues and family.
