This May Be The Most Beautiful Rendition of the National Anthem You Will Ever Hear
Grammy winning singer/songwriter Victory Boyd was slated to perform the National Anthem tonight at the NFL’s 2021 season-opening game between in Tampa Bay between the Super Bowl champion Buccaneers and the Dallas Cowboys.
But Boyd, like millions of her fellow Americans, declines to get the Covid vaccination shot due to religious, medical and other reasons. As a result, after agreeing to pay Boyd $20,000 plus expenses, the NFL, which does not mandate players on the field get the shot, refused Boyd’s request for accommodation.
Why? Because the NFL insists on having the National Anthem sung on the field tonight. Tonight would have been Boyd’s third such NFL appearance, and she was only for the same kind of accommodation the league routinely made throughout last season.
The Constitution guarantees every American’s freedom to practice their faith as they choose and to live their life according to their understanding of its tenants. People can disagree on the wisdom of getting the vaccine — I got the Moderna version, with my wife — but millions of Americans are being deprived of their jobs and equal rights today because they have religious objections to getting the shot.
Sooner or later, Congress will have to confront this issue and make a decision. For now, sit back and enjoy this wonderful performance by a young woman of immense talent:
