GOOD QUESTION: Why Did God Put You on Capitol Hill?
(THREE-MINUTE READ) — If you work on the Hill, odds are good that you didn’t get here by accident. For whatever reason — your passion for political debate, your desire to help the country, your hope for fame and influence — you came here for a reason.

But have you ever wondered why you have that desire to be a congressional aide?
Or why you have certain skills of thinking, speaking, researching or writing that especially qualifies you for this place?
And how about why you were able to make the connections that opened doors for you?
Whether or not you presently know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, there is a passage in the Old Testament that applies to you, me, everybody. It’s Psalm 139:15-16 and here’s what it says about each of us:
“My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”
Think about that for a second: God says He formed every day of your life and mine before we were even born. How can that possibly be if we are not mere robots, you ask? We both know we’re not robots because we make choices — good ones and not-so-good ones — every day.
But somehow both facts are true because He’s the all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present Creator of the entire universe, so He knows things we can’t even conceive. But set that issue aside for another time because right now there are vastly more immediate questions raised for each of us by that passage:
Since God does nothing without an eternal purpose, what is His eternal purpose you?
Why did He put you here on the Hill?
What is His ultimate purpose in creating you?
Are you right now seeking to live according to your purpose or His?
Have you ever asked Him what His purpose is for you?
Do you think you would be happier living according to His purpose or yours?
Let me ask you this: Did you know Elon Musk recently sold all seven of his grand luxury homes and now resides in a small house? Or that GOAT quarterback Tom Brady found himself wondering why he wasn’t satisfied with his life even after winning multiple Super Bowls?
Or why the guy, King Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, wrote Ecclesiastes 2:10-11 about giving himself everything his heart desired, but then declared after doing so that “I found everything to be futile and a pursuit of the wind. There was nothing to be gained under the sun.”
Musk, Brady and Solomon had a common problem. And it’s the same problem I had for much of my early adult decades. It is the same problem you may have today. Check out how Evangelist Ryan Miller explains the solution to this problem.
