HILL STAFF VIEWS: 90 Percent of Staffers Favor Firing for Bad Social Media Posts

(QUICK READ) — Recently, CNCT Capitol Pulse asked congressional aides this question and the responses that came back may shock some folks: “Should companies be able to fire employees regarding their posts on social media?”

Fully 90 percent of the respondents affirmed that in their view, if an employee posts something objectionable on a social media site, their employer should have the right to hand them the pink slip.

Here’s how the responses sorted out:

Who said “yes”  90 percent overall

  • 100 percent GOP / 50 percent DEM
  • 100 percent Junior Policy / 86 percent Senior Policy
  • 67 percent DEM Men / 57 percent DEM Under 30

Who said “no”  10 percent overall

  • 63 percent DEM Women / 50 percent DEM House
  • 50 peercent DEM / 0 percent GOP
  • 22 percent Over 30 / 8 percent Under 30

Curiously, turnout among Democratic staffers was way below normal on this particular survey, and CNCT had no explanation for why that might have happened. If you have any thoughts on why that happened, please share them in the comments. And be nice!
