HILL STAFF VIEWS: Majority of Young Democratic Aides Say They Are ‘More Radical’ Than Their Boss

(QUICK READ) — A clear majority, 53 percent, of Democratic Hill aides under the age of 30 describe themselves as “More Radical” than the Democratic senator or representative for whom they work, according to a recent CNCT Capitol Pulse survey.

Overall, 41 percent of the respondents covering both major political parties described themselves with that branding, including 43 percent of Democratic aides and 40 percent of GOP staffers.

Note, too, that on the GOP side, 45 percent of aides in operational positions and 43 percent in senior policy positions identified themselves as More Radical than their bosses. Interesting contrast that, with the Democrats where the more radical aides are also younger.

So, does that mean then that less than half the aides working on the Hill are less radical than their bosses? Or would it be more accurate to emphasize that nearly half of all aides on both side of the aisle are radical socialists or MAGA zealots?

Further breaking out the responses shows that 33 percent of the Democratic aides say they are “More Moderate” than their bosses, while 30 percent of the Republicans marked that box.

Aides saying they are “Similar to my Member” included 43 percent of the GOP women and 31 percent of the Democratic women. Overall, the GOP percent on this response was 37 percent, while on the Democratic side 24 percent put themselves right where their bosses are situated ideologically.
