HILL STAFF VIEWS: Most Dem Staffers Back Banning PAC Money; Support Grows Among GOPers, Too

The love of money is a root for all kinds of evil, according to the New Testament, and a big majority of Democratic staffers working on Capitol Hill back the idea of eliminating contributions to candidates by Political Action Committees (PAC), according to the latest CNCT Capitol Pulse.

A total of 68 percent of all responding staffers said they support banning PAC money in campaign funding, with a not-surprising 89 percent of the respondents who identified as Democrats doing so.

What some will find a bit surprising is the fact just short of half of all the responding Republican staffers, 48 percent, also expressed approval for stopping the billions flowing into campaign coffers every election season from special interest PACs, as well as those representing everyday Joe Blow concerns.

In assessing the results, Capitol Pulse observed:

“After decades of a cozy coexistence between the government and big business, Congressional Staffers are looking for a change to who this country’s laws prioritize.

“Democratic Staffers are almost completely in lockstep with these accountability concerns and Republicans are surprisingly more in line with Dems than anyone would’ve thought.

“Could we see the Republican Party make a U-turn in policy and embrace more of a ‘Teddy Roosevelt approach’ that hopes to see the government hold big business to a higher standard? Time will tell…”
