HILL STAFF VIEWS: Most GOP Staff Proud of America, Not So Much Among Dems
Nearly three-quarters, or 73 percent, of all congressional staffers who responded to a recent Capitol CNCT survey said they are “proud” to be Americans, but there are some surprises within the responses.
Among the GOP staffers, 89 percent said they are proud to be Americans but less than half, or 45 percent, of the Democratic staffers indicated such pride. The percentages were almost the same on the Male/Female responses, at 86 percent of the guys versus 48 percent of the women.
There was still a divide, though not nearly so big, when the responses were tallied according to the chamber of Congress the respondent works for, with 80 percent of those on the Senate side being proud and 69 percent on the House side.
Coming at it from the opposite perspective, 14 percent of staffers below age 30 said they do not have pride in being American, while a mere six percent of those over age 30 said so. Almost a quarter, or 24 percent, of the women said they have no such pride, compared to five percent of the men.
