HILL STAFF VIEWS: Most Hill Staffers Think Trump a No-Go For Third Term

(QUICK READ) — Ask congressional aides if they think President Donald Trump is serious when he hints at seeking a third term in the Oval and most of the responses, 63 percent overall, will be in the negative, according to a recent CNCT Capitol Pulse survey.

Republican junior policy aides showed the biggest doubt about a Trump third term shot, with 91 percent saying “No,” followed by 83 percent of Senate GOP aides. For all GOP aides, 81 percent said “No.”

Democrats saw things somewhat differently, thought perhaps not as much as one might expect, with 51 percent of House Democratic aides saying they expect Trump to make the effort. The percentage for all Democrats was 49 percent affirming a Trump 2028 campaign.

Far fewer GOP aides,  eight percent, expect a 2028 Trump run, while 11 percent of the GOPers overall were unsure, compared to 17 percent of the Democrats.

Presidents are limited to two consecutive terms by the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution that was adopted in 1951. That amendment was in part a reaction to President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s winning four straight presidential elections, though he died soon after the last one during World War II.
