HILL STAFF VIEWS: Trump Joint Session Address Got Mixed Reviews From Congressional Aides

(QUICK READ!) — Three quarters of the American people were quite impressed by President Donald Trump’s Tuesday night address to a joint session of Congress, but aides working for senators, representatives and congressional committees were far less impressed.

Overall, 45 percent of respondents to this CNCT Capitol Pulse survey taken in the hours after the Trump speech graded the Chief Executive’s presentation as “Good” overall. That included 86 percent of junior GOP policy aides and 65 percent of the senior policy aides.

Only 16 percent of the Democratic staffers who responded rated Trump’s oration as “Good” overall. Interestingly, GOP women were noticeably more likely to have a positive view on this question than men, 83 percent to 65 percent.

Nine percent of the respondents overall described the speech as “Average,” with 12 percent of the GOPers opting for that grade and only two percent of the Democrats doing so.

The “Bad” rating was chosen by 69 percent of the Democratic aides, compared to only one in 10 of the GOP aides. And 10 percent of the respondents overall confessed to not watching the address at all.
