HILL STAFF VIEWS: Women in Both Parties Strongest Supporters of Instagram’s Teen Account Updates
When Instagram announced its site updates designed to increase protections of adolescent and younger kids using the social media app, a lot of women serving as congressional aides on both sides of the partisan aisle cheered.
That’s according to CNCT’s latest Capitol Pulse, which found that 76 percent of the women approved the updates as “generally positive,” compared to 68 percent of the men.
On the party ID measure, the figures were comparable, with 70 percent of the Republican aides lauding the updates and 64 percent of the Democrats. Interestingly, only five percent of aides under the age of 30 said the updates were “generally negative,” while none of those over 30 said that.
One other aspect of the results bears some attention: A third, 30 percent of the Democrat staffers were “unsure” of the updates, as did 25 percent of the Republicans. Twice as many male staffers, 33 percent, were “unsure,” versus only 17 percent of the female aides.
