CONSIDER THIS: Is John 3:16 the Most Distorted, Misunderstood Verse in the Bible?
John 3:16 may well be the most widely recognized verse of Scripture in modern America. For many people, it’s likely the only verse of Scripture they have ever heard. And, as the late, great Rev. R. C. Sproul explains in the following 8:00 video recording, John 3:16 is also very possibly the most distorted verse in the Bible.
Why? In my own view, it is related to the fact that in any secular crowd on any given day, you can often mention the name of “Jesus Christ” in casual conversation and people get upset. “We don’t talk about religion here,” or “that’s just a bunch of fairy tales,” or something similar is heard in response. John 3:16 points to what Jesus is and that makes a lot of folks uncomfortable.
Thus, the reality is that John 3:16 conveys the most important message any human being can or ever will hear because it captures what God is willing to do for every person who recognizes who He is, what He is and why He deserves our worship. He utterly transformed my life and He can yours as well:
