EXPLAIN THIS: Is It By Chance or Design That Geckos Can Walk on Ceilings Without Using Suction Cups?

If you’ve watched five minutes of TV in recent months, you’ve seen the Gecko, the Aussie accented lizard advertising for GEICO, the insurance company. GEICO has turned its Gecko into a marketing phenom so effectively that millions of Americans think of the insurance company as soon as they hear the word “Gecko.”

Talk about an escape artist! (Screenshot from YouTube).

But the real Gecko out there in the natural world is even more amazing in multiple ways, according to Eric Lyons of the Apologetics Press. Take for instance the Gecko’s ability to self-amputate a big section of its tail when that section is in the grasp of a predator. And this is not a one-time thing with the Gecko because it regenerates a new tail section.

Now consider this: If an engineer at Ford or VW figured out how to design a self-regenerating bumper that would spring back to its original shape after being involved in a crash, everybody would applaud him or her as a genius. Nobody would question the title “Intelligent Designer.”

So why not recognize the Gecko as having an Intelligent Designer as well? Granted, a Ford F150 or VW Beetle is not a living being, but the principle — the presence of evidence for purposeful design in a specific entity — is equally valid, is it not?
