HEY, YOU CAN’T DO THAT! 7 Things That Are Mission Impossible for Moral Relativists

So, you think all that stuff about absolute truth is a bunch of hokum, or maybe you view it as just a bunch of nice fairy tales made up by fearful people to explain what they didn’t understand.

Can you think of seven things a moral relativist cannot do?

Or perhaps you are of the view that nothing is always true, everywhere and all the time, because that notion is merely one of the ways the oppressors who control everything maintain absolute control over the oppressed.

Now, wait a minute, if there is no such thing as absolute truth, how can there be anything like absolute control of anybody?

See where this is going now?

There are actually seven really important things that people who reject the existence of absolute truth cannot logically do because they are moral relativists. Greg Koukl, the guy who leads the Stand to Reason apologetics ministry explains the seven in a great piece on Salvo.

Here’s number one: Moral Relativists Cannot Accuse Others of Wrong-Doing.

“Relativism makes it impossible to criticize the behavior of others, because relativism ultimately denies that there is such a thing as wrong- doing. In other words, if you believe that morality is a matter of personal definition, then you can’t ever again judge the actions of others,” Koukl explains.

“Relativists can’t even object on moral grounds to racism. After all, what sense can be made of the judgment ‘apartheid is wrong’ when spoken by someone who doesn’t believe in right and wrong?

“What justification is there to intervene? Certainly not human rights, for there are no such things as rights. Relativism is the ultimate pro-choice position because it accepts every personal choice—even the choice to be racist.”
