HILL STAFF NEWS: About Those End-of-the-Year Bonuses

Legistorm’s Keturah Hetrick reports that House Members’ office funds will have on average more than $360,000 in unspent funds at the end of the year’s third quarter.

That important data point, of course, raises a very specific question for Members and their Chiefs of Staff: What about some end-of-the-year staff bonuses to mark the conclusion of a remarkable year that required lots of hard work, late nights and seemingly endless reading?

Hetrick reports:

“The average House personal office used just 61 percent of its office budget in the first nine months of the year, according to a LegiStorm analysis. That puts each office on pace to use 81 percent of its budget by the year’s end, leaving close to $363,000 unspent per office. The personal average office ended 2022 with 10 percent of its budget left unspent, or more than $176,000.”
So, let’s see come January how many Capitol Hill bosses turned out to be Christmas Season Scrooges or Saint Nicks!
