QUICK TAKES: Poll Finds Faith Voters Most Concerned About First Amendment Freedoms

A new national survey of voters who identify themselves as “Faith Voters” finds this key segment of the American electorate puts protection of the First Amendment’s guarantee of every person’s freedom of religious practice and expression to be a top factor in determining which candidates get their support.

The survey conducted by the Atlanta-based Trafalgar Group on behalf of Convention of the States interviewed 1,087 likely voters in a demographically representative sample of American opinion. The survey has a 2.9 percent margin of error and a 95 percent confidence rate.

Among the results:

  • A Strong Majority of Faith Voters Want 2024 Presidential Candidates to Prioritize Religious Freedom, Candidates to Express Faith—74 percent of faith voters say they are more likely to support a candidate in 2024 presidential election who expresses their religious beliefs and personal faith, 85.8 percent of faith voters say it is important for Americans to be able to freely express their religious beliefs in news media and on social media.

  • A Majority of Faith Voters Believe Christians Should Hold Firm in Their Traditional Beliefs—66.7 percent of faith voters should not adjust their traditional beliefs to fit into modern America but should hold to their traditional beliefs, 52 percent of voters overall agree.

  • Faith Voters Continue Strong Support for Israel—84 percent of faith voters agree it is important for America to have a strong relationship with Israel, 78 percent of voters overall support maintaining strong relationship with Israel.

  • Faith Voters are More Likely Than Average Voters to See Important Role Alternative News and Podcasts Play in Keeping Public Informed—81 percent of faith voters say alternative news media sources and podcasts are important to having a fully informed American public, 77 percent of voter overall say alternative news and podcasts are important.

“These results show that religious freedom is not only a top of mind issue for voters as we head into the 2024 election cycle, but a defining issue that will shape their vote in the primary elections,” said Mark Meckler, President of the Convention of States (COS).

“And despite what the D.C. consultants say, the faith of those seeking to lead our nation is still important to voters today, just as it was at the founding of our nation. Faith voters are a powerful force in this nation, and they are watching candidates’ actions just as much as their policy beliefs,” Meckler added.

The COS is encouraging the convening of a constitutional convention called for by three-fourths of the states to consider amendments to the nation’s most fundamental law. To date, 20 state legislatures have approved resolutions in support of the convention.

Interestingly, the sample from which the Faith Voters were drawn is weighted somewhat in favor of Democrats (39.3 percent), with Republicans at 35.6 percent and independents/other at 25.1 percent.

What amendments to the nation’s most fundamental law? Please specify.

A Convention of States to ‘revise’ (re-write) the constitution would be an exceptionally dangerous event. What limited liberty we retain would be forfeit to those who control the process. Most of the small-r republican institutions the Founders put in place are gone. “One man, one vote – granting the franchise to every warm body out there (and some cold ones, too) – regardless whether that person pays taxes or does military service (the original criteria for the franchise); direct (popular) election of Federal Senators, rather than state legislatures appointment of senators – the states have lost their federal representation; imposition of the individual income tax; intrusive national administrative agencies, run by unaccountable bureaucracies. I could go on. I could go on for quite a long time.

And, as every one of our institutions has been captured by the godless Left there is no good prospect that a COS wouldn’t also be captured by the secular elites who do not believe in any limits to their exercise of political power. It is for your own good, they say. You will own nothing, eat the bugs, and be happy (drugged most like). Ultimately – you are the carbon global elites want to reduce.

Let them ‘adjust’ the Constitution at your peril.
