STAFF NEWS: Hearing to be Scheduled on Formation of House Staff Union
It’s official now, although the date has not been set. The House Committee on Administration will convene a hearing to discuss the logistics for moving forward with a union for congressional staff working for Members and committees of the House of Representatives.
Committee Chairman Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) released this statement Wednesday:
“The Office of Congressional Workplace Rights has completed a review I requested of pending regulations from 1996 and has determined no changes are needed for the House to extend federal protections to legislative branch employees who wish to unionize and collectively bargain. Accordingly, I’m pleased to announce the Committee on House Administration will convene a hearing soon to move the House forward on recognizing Congressional workers’ right to organize.”
