The Magician’s Twin: Why C.S. Lewis Struggled Over Intelligent Design
There has been a tremendous surge recently of interest in C.S. Lewis, the great British Christian apologist and spinner of wonderful childrens’ tales, thanks in great part to films like “Shadowland” and “The Reluctant Convert.”
Now comes the Discovery Institute’s Evolution News (EN) with a superbly done short documentary that examines the multiple reasons Lewis long found Intelligent Design to be inadequate because it failed to “prove” the Christian God.
But in the final analysis, Lewis, in great part due to his love of the beauty and order seen so vividly in nature, came around to being a proponent of ID and articulated a number of arguments that remain influential today among philosophers and scientists alike.
Something that is not well-known is that the world-famous atheist-turned-believer Anthony Flew was deeply influenced by Lewis, participating in the latter’s Oxford Socratic League, which included professors and students, including then-graduate student Flew.
