Then Jesus said:
“And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ — Matthew 22:37-39

“A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell.

Over the years we in the church have lost sight of this. Scripture tells us that we are redeemed when we deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow him. No place in scripture are we told to repeat a prayer, accept christ as our Savior or invite him into our heart.
