THINK ABOUT THIS: Law of Biogenesis, Consciousness And The Origin of Life
Our bodies, like the Earth, Moon, Sun and stars in the universe, are made of physical matter. There is space, time and matter. We are made of the latter, we exist in a specific space and we do so for a particular amount of time.

But we also have consciousness, which has no physical properties, but every human being who has ever or ever will live knows to be an inescapable part of the reality in which they existed or will exist.
But there are some rather basic questions that follow from such observations:
- Is the universe eternally existent. Or put another way, has the universe always existed and always will exist? But if the universe had a beginning, when was it and why did it happen?
- The Law of Biogenesis states that organic life is always created from a pre-existing organic life. But if that’s true, then how do we account for the first life springing forth from non-life?
- Consciousness is non-material but no one questions that it is every bit as much a part of human reality as are space, matter and time. Then how do we explain the origin of human consciousness, thought and logic?

To answer such questions, it seems essential that we re-think the issue of whether matter is or is not eternal. If it’s always been here, there’s still the Law of Biogenesis issue and that leaves the origin of life unanswered. That consciousness question remains, too.
As the Apologetics Press’ Kyle Butt explains in the following video, answering these basic questions does indeed require opening our minds to consider both the natural (Science 101) and the supernatural (Genesis 1):
You are alive. Then you will be not.
Questions of origin and purpose are distractions. (I taught Astronomy for 30 years).
Everyone has an opinion. Who cares?
I’m living my life. None of you actually matter. 😉
That’s the actual purpose of the universe.
Live your own life. I don’t need you to try to live mine, too.
But if nothing matters, then you have no basis on which to say nothing matters or that is the actual purpose of the universe. Something to think about: If Jesus actually was resurrected, then everything He said about Himself, you and me must be true. Shouldn’t you at least look at the evidence for and against the Resurrection before staking your eternal destiny on nothing that matters?
