Toss this idea about science and the soul around your synapses for a spell: If we human beings are nothing more than material blobs that happen to have evolved over billions and billions of years from thoughtless single cells in the primordial mire to the sentient characters of today, how can there be a non-material soul?

But we humans have time out of mind had a sense that there is more to our world than its physical components, that there is more to us than flesh and blood, if only because we have the capacity to think, to meditate, to cry and laugh, and a thousand other things that don’t require physicality.

Still, we hear over and over that science has “proven” that the natural universe is all there is and that there is no spiritual realm, thus no such thing as a soul.
