HILL STAFF VIEWS: Can You Guess How Aides View Biden Pardon?
When President Joe Biden granted his son Hunter a wide-ranging pardon, reactions tended to fall into either of two camps, with the first being the Chief Executive was acting as any loving father would and the second summarized with the question “what did you expect?”
Think congressional staffers are different? The responses when CNCT Capitol Pulse queried Hill aides may surprise you.
Among Democrats, the figure, 55 percent, for those supporting the pardon is not quite as high as one might expect, while among Republicans, the figure for those opposed to the pardon might be a tad lower, at 78 percent.
Overall, 62 percent of all respondents oppose the pardon, while 31 percent support it. Only seven percent said they were unsure of their opinion on the issue.
Digging a little bit deeper into the numbers, more senior staffers were the strongest category in opposition to the pardon at 80 percent, compared to 35 percent among junior staffers.
Among males, 78 percent were opposed, while only 35 percent of females opposed the pardon. Among supporters of the pardon, females made up 39 percent and males 26 percent of the total positive responses.
The folks at CNCT Capitol Pulse offered this observation about the results: “With how much news outlets are reporting outrage from D.C. Democrats regarding the Hunter pardon, it is interesting to see a majority of DEM Staffers stick by their guy.”
