HILL STAFF VIEWS: Minimum Wage Hike Draws Big Boost Among Congressional Aides

When all of the CNCT Capitol Pulse votes were counted when subscribers were asked if they think the minimum wage should be increased, nearly three-quarters, or 70 percent, of them answered in the affirmative.

But that 70 percent support isn’t the whole story. All 100 percent of the responding Democratic staffers said yes, but less than half, or 46 percent, of the responding Republican staffers answered in the affirmative.

Interestingly, staffers over the age of 30 favored a minimum wage hike by a significant margin, compared to those under 30. The greybeards came in at 85 percent for, while “only” 64 percent of the whipper snappers did so.

Finally, the male/female split turned out to be 78 percent of the women favored the minimum wage increase, compared to 65 percent of the men. Thirty-two percent of the GOP staffers said Congress should repeal the minimum wage, and slightly smaller numbers of respondents endorsed keeping the present pay level.
