HILL STAFF VIEWS: Most Congressional Aides Say Drug Cartels Are Terrorist Organizations
(TWO-MINUTE READ) — Three of every four of the congressional aides responding anonymously to the recent CNCT Capitol Pulse survey agree that Mexican Drug Cartels should be classified by the U.S. government as terrorist organizations.
The results were almost unanimous among Republican aides, with 92 percent of them answering the affirmative. Only 48 percent of the Democratic aides said Yes. In what may come as a bit of a surprise, more staffers, 73 percent, under the age of 30 said Yes, compared to 64 percent of those over the age of 30.
Only 15 percent of the respondents said they were unsure of whether the drug cartels should be group in the same category as terrorist groups. Thirty percent of the Unsures were Democrats, five percent were GOPers.
