HILL STAFF VIEWS: Most Staffers View Democrats as Biggest Shutdown Losers

(QUICK READ) — Fully 48 percent of congressional aides responding to the latest CNCT Capitol Pulse survey said they believe Democrats on Capitol Hill suffered the most political damage from the record-breaking government shutdown that started October 1 and only ended 43 days later.

Republicans were hit the hardest politically, according to 30 percent of the respondents, while 22 percent said the damage was suffered equally by the two major political parties.

Interestingly, among the 48 percent who said Democrats were the biggest loser was 56 percent of the respondents who are working for Senate Democrats. Among Democratic women aides, the figure was 33 percent.

Not surprisingly, however, most of the respondents saying Democrats were hit hardest were Republicans, including 71 percent of GOP junior policy-making aides, and the same percentage for Republican women aides.

Conversely, 71 percent of the Senior Democrats said the GOP got the worst end of the shutdown deal, as did 57 percent of the Democratic men. Only 16 percent of the GOP respondents said their party suffered more than the Democrats.

CNCT Capitol Pulse is conducted by CNCT, the digital network that puts congressional aides in touch with other congressional aides and with events, resources, facilities and people who can help them do their jobs better and more fully enjoy their experience on the Hill.
