THINK ABOUT THIS: Actor Anthony Hopkins on the Greatest Man Ever

UPDATE: Readers are advised to see the comment below by Josiah making a strong case that this video is in fact a fake. As the editor of HillFaith, I apologize to readers for my failure to document the legitimacy of the video. I am leaving it posted on the site with this warning so that others may know.)

(ONE MINUTE AND A HALF READ) — Mention the name Anthony Hopkins and virtually everybody can think of at least one absolutely unforgettable movie role in which the Academy Award winning Welshman has played in the course of a long and sterling career on the screen and stage.

For many, that unforgettable role is likely to Hopkins’ portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in “The Silence of the Lambs.” But in the following 1:24 second video, Hopkins points to the most memorable, amazing, enduring character of Jesus Christ as the Greatest Man in History.

UPDATED: It’s one thing for an actor to portray Jesus in some fashion, but quite another to be a genuine follower of the Lord. Some readers have questioned whether the following video is a product of AI, with the implication being that Hopkins is not actually a Christian.

The following Pureflix article from 2018 makes clear that Hopkins knows he was delivered from alcoholism by God, but it’s not at all certain that Hopkins follows Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savor. That said, his words in the following video are impactful:

This seems like AI. Wonderful if it’s real.

Unfortunately, one must conclude that the voice is AI-generated, and the accompanying text implies this may have been understood by the poster. To employ a mechanical deception in an attempt to market a message that could easily stand on its own from a lesser-known human narrator is… beyond ironic or merely sad.

And what is your evidence for your assertion that the video is a product of AI? I am certainly open to persuasion, based on credible evidence.

First of all, this speech is not original to Anthony Hopkins—it’s been around for decades and shared all over the internet, usually without citing a source. It’s often attributed to a “Lyle C. Rollings III,” but that’s where the trail goes cold.

Secondly, the video of him speaking clearly doesn’t match the audio: the lipsyncing doesn’t match the words being spoken, the late night talk show setting doesn’t match the soft reading of poetry, and the final comments about sharing the video are entirely out of place for the tone of the poem and any setting where Hopkins might have recited it.

Finally, there’s not a single reliable source of Anthony Hopkins saying this anywhere on the internet. It’s just this random, tiny YouTube channel and others like it that exclusively posts videos that are clearly 100% AI-generated. This channel notably includes a video posted a month ago that features a motivational speech about healthy relationships with the voice of Heath Ledger as The Joker from Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight’ (2008).

        So… yeah.
