THINK ABOUT THIS: Six Things Jesus Claimed About Himself

What did Jesus say about Himself while He was here on Earth? Here are six key claims Jesus Christ made about Himself, claims that, if true, confirm Him as the most important person who ever lived and one that all of us must, sooner or later, come to terms with, regardless of our status, wealth, education, or profession.

Claim Number One:

“I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father but through me.” John 14:6.

Wow, Jesus left absolutely no doubt that He saw Himself as the sole source of ultimate truth and the only way any man or woman can gain eternal life in Heaven with the Lord. You may object to what He said for whatever reason you choose, but if He spoke the truth, that changes everything for all of us.

Claim Number Two:

“This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.” John 5:18.

Not only did He claim to be the only way to the Father, Jesus claimed to be the Son of God and equally divine. After you check out John 5:18, do the same with John 14:9 and John 14:8.

Claim Number Three:

“I and the Father are one.”John 10:30.

Like C.S. Lewis famously said, anybody who makes this claim about themselves leaves us only three choices: They are either lying, a lunatic, or precisely what they claim, the Lord.

Claim Number Four:

” … your sins are forgiven …”Matthew 9:1-8.

Oh boy, see Lewis above.

Claim Number Five:

“Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.” John 5:25-27.

So what will you say when it’s your turn on Judgement Day and the only question that will matter will be what did you do with Jesus Christ, accept Him as Lord and Savior, or went your own way?

Claim Number Six:

“For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”John 10:17-18.

Jesus has the power of eternal life and eternal death. Paul the Apostle also had a great deal to say about Jesus, most importantly at Romans 10:9 – “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Got some questions about all this?

Shoot me an email at mark.tapscott@hillfaith.org and we can schedule a coffee conversation in one of the Hill’s multiple eateries. It will be an entirely off-the-record conversation. No criticism, no judgement. Trust me, I’m no preacher. But Jesus radically transformed me and I will happily share with you how it happened to me and how it can be true of you, too.
