WHAT WOULD YOU SAY? Does the Bible Endorse Polygamy?

In a word, the answer to the question posed in the headline above is a resounding “No” and one need look no further than the consequences of polygamy in the life of King Solomon and Israel to see why.

Marriage between one man and one woman is an amazing picture of Jesus Christ and His followers.

But critics of the Bible as the inspired Word of God and defenders of alternative lifestyles often claim the Bible nowhere explicitly condemns polygamy, so therefore it must be A-Okay with the man upstairs.

The latest edition of the “What Would You Say?” video series from the Colson Center lays out three decisive reasons that kind of approach to understanding Bible teachings is full of mistaken logic and historical ignorance.

Not only does Moses specifically condemn polygamy for the King of Israel (see Deuteronomy 17:17), but II Chronicles, which describes Solomon’s life in great detail, makes it crystal clear that, despite all of his wisdom and wealth, polygamy led to his downfall and came very near to destroying Israel:
