Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress Listening Session

It gets little public attention, but the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress is continuing the work it began in the 116th Congress in the 117th Congress. Rep. Derek Kilmer (D-WA) is the committee chairman and Rep. William Timmons (R-SC) is the vice-chairman.

As with much of its prior activities, the panel’s first hearing of 2021 was structured in an unusual manner. Called a “Listening Session,” the purpose of the hearing was to adopt the panel’s rules for the present Congress and to get input from a wide variety of interested parties in what reforms should be considered this year.

Of particular interest to HillFaith and congressional staffers is the section beginning at the 6:30 mark and continuing through the 28th minute that focused on increasing congressional staff capacity.

Definitely worth giving a listen to this section, but the balance of the hour and 49 minute hearing should also be of interest to anyone who cares about how Congress functions:
