WORKING ON THE HILL: Three GOP Senate Freshmen Among Top 10 For Staff Pay

Data compiled by Legistorm finds three Senate Republican freshmen among the top 10 best-paying solons in the upper chamber of Congress, according to a report published just before the Christmas break.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.)

“Among the top ten highest paying Senate offices, three first-term senators made the list: Sen. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) with a median office salary of $81,823, Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) with a median of $75,728 and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) with a median of $75,275,” according to Legistorm.
Just outside the top 10 in the 11 spot came another GOP freshman, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), with a median average salary of $73,259.

“Among representatives serving their first terms, Rep. Ross Spano (R-Fla.) topped the staff salary list at a median of $61,162. Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.) was the highest paying Democratic freshman, with a median office salary of $60,000,” Legistorm reported.

Lowest paying representative in the House? Legistorm said it’s Rep. Cindy Axne (D-Iowa) at $38,862.
Working for a first-year senator or representative looks attractive in the Legistorm analysis:

“Freshmen legislators for both the House and Senate steered clear of high office turnover compared to peers, according to the LegiStorm staff turnover index. None of the freshmen made the list of top 10 offices with the highest turnover,” the legislative data analysis firm said.
