MYTH-BUSTERS: No, Neither MEST Nor PCB Explains Human Consciousness

If your eyes scanned from the headline above to this sentence, I’m guessing it’s at least in part because you are wondering what in the world do “MEST” and “PCB” mean. The first is an acronym for the place where we are residing. That is, Matter, Energy, Space and Time. The second is Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Astronomer Hugh Ross heads Reasons to Believe, which can be found at reasons.org.

These are all about the physical universe. But neither MEST nor PCB has the whole story of why we are here, how we got here or what happens to us after our physical bodies die and our consciousness ends. Or does it?

As astronomer Hugh Ross, the founder of Reasons to Believe, explains in the following 2.29 video entitled “The Mystery of Consciousness and the Human Soul,” scientists have been trying for eons to explain the reality of human consciousness solely from within the MEST context.

Ross points to the 50 books he has on his office bookshelf, each written by a scientist, philosopher or biologist who claims nothing exists outside of MEST, and who confess that they cannot explain the origin or functionality of consciousness outside those physical limits. There is a reason for that, as Ross explains:
